Elmer Ray Doutre

A funeral for Elmer Ray Doutre, 66, of Fernley will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 155 Highway 95A, in Fernley.

Burial will be at Valley View Cemetery in Yerington at 1:30 p.m., with a reception to follow at the LDS Church in Yerington.

Mr. Doutre died Sept. 26, 2004, at home. He was born Oct. 2, 1937, in Ely to Steven Ray and Lucy Charlene Hebrew Doutre.

He attended schools in Magill; Pocatello, Idaho; and Carson City, and graduated from Yerington High School in 1955.

He married Vera May Wilson June 27, 1959, in Yerington. They later had their marriage solemnized in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' Oakland, Calif., Temple. She preceded him in death Aug. 20, 1967.

He married Cherrill Robyn Robbins Aug. 27, 1971, in Yerington.

Mr. Doutre was an electrician and worked at Anaconda Copper in Weed Heights, until the mine went on strike in 1967. He moved to Questa, N.M., where he worked at Moly Corp. Mining until 1971, when he returned to work at Anaconda Copper until its closure in 1978. He then moved to Tooele, Utah, to work for Arco Mining until it closed in 1984. He returned to Nevada to work for Nevada Cement in Fernley until his retirement in 2002.

He was an active member of the LDS church and served in various capacities. He enjoyed his family, the outdoors, hunting, fishing, Western history and the railroad.

He served in the U.S. National Guard for eight years.

In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his brother Quey "Butch" and nephews Steven and Jason Knight.

Among his survivors are his wife; sons and daughters-in-law Don and Karla of Pendleton, Ore., and Darrell and Stacy of Sparks; daughter and son-in-law, Dawna and Bryan Hammond of Toole; sister and brother-in-law, Edna and Dennis Knight of Yerington; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Mary's Hospice of Northern Nevada.
