Kristel Thompson scored two goals, the second coming with two minutes remaining to give the Dayton High School girls soccer team the lead en route to a 2-1 Northern 3A victory at home against Fernley on Tuesday.
Thompson's goal in the 78th minute broke a 1-1 tie as Dayton improved to 2-3 in league (2-5 overall) and helped in the race for a top-four finish and berth into the 3A playoffs. Jamie Selmi was credited with an assist for her pass to Thompson inside the 18-yard box.
Earlier, Thompson scored in the 19th minute off an assist from Sabrina Cantrell to give the Dust Devils a 1-0 lead. Cantrell crossed the ball along the goal line to Thompson, who was able to one-touch the ball out of the air into the net.
Hillary McAdam scored scored the equalizer for Fernley in the 53rd minutes, assisted by Kelly McCormack.
Fernley dropped to 1-2 in league (2-2-2 overall).
