The Carson High boys and girls cross country teams had an impressive effort in the South Tahoe Relays on Friday.
Each runner on the four-member teams covered two miles. In the varsity co-ed relay team division, Carson took second and fourth. The team of Ryan Turner, Annie Brinson, Christy Works and Chad Shroy took second in 53 minutes, 54 seconds and the team of Doug Holderman, Gloria Sosa, Patti Capistrant and Shelby Moulden was fourth in 55:44.
Carson's team went one-two in the junior varsity co-ed team division. Tyler Bourns, Kristin Neddenriep, Megan Myer and Caleb Carter won in 59:10 and Ahron Osheroff, Sumantha Pitts, Andrea Kierstead and Scott Wandel took second in 61:22.
Senator coach Dennis Brinson said the relays served as a relaxing race between the Stanford Invitational held last weekend and the Carson Invitation to be held this Friday.
"The South Tahoe race was a nice change from the intense competition of Stanford last weekend," Brinson said. "The relay races give the girl's and boy's teams a chance to combine their efforts with each other. Nobody wants to let the other team members down by losing a position in the race."
The relaxing atmosphere was demonstrated by Capistrant, a homecoming queen candidate, who ran in her crown. The race announcer referred to her as "Princess Patti."
