Video lunch features "Divorce Story"

In the 1930s, when the six-week divorce law in Nevada attracted divorce-seeking couples from all over the country, the phrase "Going to Reno" meant only one thing: a "quickie divorce."

"Divorce Story," a recently produced episode in the Department of Cultural Affairs' documentary series "Exploring Nevada," looks at the world surrounding the Reno's divorce drama from the historic downtown train depot and Washoe County Courthouse, to the dude ranches of Washoe Valley and Virginia Street's legendary Bridge of Sighs.

"Divorce Story" will be shown during a free public Video Brown Bag Lunch at noon today at the Nevada State Museum. Mella Harmon, architectural historian with the State Historic Preservation Office, and series producer Gwen Clancy will lead a discussion following the video.

Admission is free, attendees may bring a sack lunch. The Nevada State Museum is at 600 N. Carson St. Call 687-4810, ext. 237.
