Matt Moore shattered a meet record to lead an outstanding effort by the Carson High boys and girls track teams at the Woody Wilson Invitational on Friday at UC Davis.
Kayla Sanchez would have also set a meet record, but was edged out for a title in the 300-meter hurdles.
Moore won the 400 hurdles in 55.43 seconds, shattering the old record of 56.56. Also for Carson, Seth Carter took third in the event in 59.56.
Sanchez took second in the 300 hurdles in 44.54, losing at the finish by .02 of a second as the winning time was 44.52. The old meet record was 44.79.
In addition, Sanchez took sixth in the 100 hurdles in 15.78 while Andrea Keirstead was 17th. Sanchez was also fifth in the 100 in 12.74 and Moore was fifth in the 110 hurdles in 15.18.
Lindsay Ford took second in the girls 400 hurdles in 1:09.06 while Amanda Benson was seventh in 1:17.49. Carson's girls took second in the 800 sprint relay in 1:54.88 as well. Alex McAlman also had an outstanding throw of 35 feet, 10 1/2 inches in taking 10th in the shot put. Other top performances for Carson included:
Boys discus - Stepen Waicul, seventh, 143-9. Shot put - Waicul, 16th, 46-5. Boys 800 spring relay - Carson, seventh, 1:38.24. Boys 100 - Josh Heilman, eighth, 11.36.
