Many of us live cloistered lives, but with Amber alerts abounding, often ending with the abduction and murder of a young child, it behooves us to realize that there are sexual predators in our midst right here in Carson City.
You do not have the right to harass an individual who has "done his time," but you do have the right to know who they are and where they live, so that you do not hire them to work in your home or let them near your children.
You can access this information by going to www.google.com and typing in "NV sexual predators" or by going directly to www.nvsex offenders.gov, then getting a list of them by Zip Code. Details and pictures are also furnished. These people are convicted felons who have served their time and are free to be in the community, although they are required to be registered with the police. Again, they are not to be harassed, but it pays to be aware of who and where they are. Forewarned is forearmed.

Bravo to those who are finally bringing the C Hill flag to fruition ... it's looking great!

OK ... now we've heard everything ... there is a couple in South Dakota who are making "His Scent" candles and asking "What would Jesus smell like?" While their candles smell like myrrh, aloe and kasha (turns out that's a type of wheat), we were thinking it might be dirt, food and perspiration ... somehow, wethinks (don't bother looking this up Dan ... it's not in the dictionary) this is either brilliant, or pretty darned dumb ...

Per Newsweek..."did you know there is an obscure provision in the No Child Left Behind Act that tells public school districts to supply high school students' names, phone numbers and addresses to military recruiters? The Department of Defense says it cuts the costs of recruiting significantly ... " Gee ... Big Brother IS watching ...

We received a neat message from DeeAnn Parsons recently, saying, "Do you think you're having a bad day?"
"A woman came home to find her husband shaking frantically in the kitchen with a wire running from his waist towards the electric kettle. To jolt him away from the deadly current, she whacked him with a handy plank of wood, breaking his arm in two places. Up to that moment, he had been happily listening to his Walkman ..."

For those of you who insist on forwarding rumors by e-mail ... Check Them Out First ... go to http://www.truthorfiction.com or http://www.snopes.com before you send them ... most of them are not true.

And following through on annoying things ... toss those "government petitions" in the wastebasket. They all want money and are bogus (this goes for anything that looks "official"). When they want money, make them go bye-bye ...

Bryan Harris had an interesting experience a couple of weeks ago ... seems the starter on his Jeep went out and he had it replaced. A week later, the new starter died, so Bryan called the auto shop, Carson Service Center, from his office at NDOT. Right away, they sent a mechanic to his work and replaced the starter in the parking lot ... now "that's service." Way to go, guys ...

And thanks go to Erich von Batsch of Realty Executives, Maizie's next-door neighbor, for helping her sweep 3 inches of water out of her garage, courtesy of a broken washing machine hose ... then thanks to Greg Petersen of Petersen Plumbing for fixing it .. at least the garage floor is clean now ...

Western Nevada Community College is holding a Wildcats Athletics Dinner, "Legends & Tales In Nevada Sports," with legendary Nevada football coach Joe Sellers as the speaker, to raise money for their rodeo, soccer and baseball teams. The fundraiser will be April 27 from 6-9 p.m. at the Peppermill Hotel Casino in Reno. Tickets are $75 apiece and can be obtained by calling 445-3240 ... it's for a great cause and will be a lot of fun ... "Ride 'em cowboy," "Spike it," "Play ball..." and "Support our Wildcats!"

Speaking of "playing ball"... Proscenium Players "Bleacher Bums" opens this Friday night at 8 p.m. at the Brewery Arts Center with a champagne/sparkling cider reception after the play. For information and reservations, call 883-1976. Come out and see the Chicago Cubs (and "Cubettes") try and win one.
Also, Carson High's "Into the Woods" has one more weekend at the Community Center ... call 283-1600 for information, and go out and see what great talent our high school has. Lois Hill called us and said it was as good a show as any ever performed in this area (and she goes to most), so be sure you check it out Thursday or Friday. The kids would be thrilled.

Our Washington D.C. friend, Betsy Daine, sent us some "quality" tips ...
"Women should not have children after 35 ... really, 35 children are enough ..."
"Shopping tip: you can get shoes for 85 cents at bowling alleys ..." and "Pay attention ... on my first day of school my parents dropped me off at the wrong nursery...there I was, surrounded by trees and bushes ..."

We were chastised for complaining about Laura Bush's five-hour stop in Afghanistan last week with a note saying we hadn't complained about Hilary and Chelsea Clinton's trips overseas ... well, we weren't writing a column then ... however, we are bipartisan complainers, because we objected to that, too ... just not in print. No matter which side of the coin you're looking at ... it's still a big waste of taxpayers' money ...

A woman sued Wendy's for finding a fingertip in her chili (and who said you couldn't get something for free?) ... turns out she likes to sue people, but has since dropped the suit because of the "mental anguish" it has caused her ... right ... she should be glad Lorena Bobbitt didn't frequent that store...
