For the second time this year, longtime Carson City resident, car dealer and philanthropist Dick Campagni is being recognized for his keen business sense and his generosity.
Earlier this year, Campagni was one of 65 out of some 19,500 national car dealers to win Time magazine's Quality Dealer Award. And now he's getting his very own day.
Thursday will be "Richard N. Campagni Day" in Carson City this year.
"It was humbling to hear they were going to do this," Campagni said.
The accolades aren't for sales numbers, although he's racked those up too. They are for community service.
"I've always had a soft heart for kids and elderly people who need help," he said.
Campagni, owner of Carson City Toyota, Capital Ford and Carson City Mazda/Hyundai, is a regular contributor to the Boys & Girls Club of Western Nevada, St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Community, Silver Hills Community Church and Western Nevada Community College.
He and his wife, Mary, have donated a vehicle to the Carson City Little League program for the past 15 years, raising more than $300,000 in all for the program.
Campagni has won the Carson City Business of the Year award three times, as well as Toyota's highest customer service award 17 out of the past 19 years.
Mayor Marv Teixeira will make the proclamation Thursday at the Board of Supervisors' meeting at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, 851 E. William St.
