Carson City woman organizes opera

A special opera performance by second-graders from Grace Warner Elementary School in Reno is free and open to the public 12 p.m. Friday at the McKinley Arts Center 925 Riverside Drive in Reno.

The driving force behind the opera is music lover Jackie Maye from Carson City, who has been working with the 30 students over the past several months.

She will play piano for "The Ballroom Wedding" opera. Elinor Bugli will perform on violin, and Sue Kitts will play viola. All three women are from Carson City and have performed in Carson City schools.

BLM to host Holocaust presentation

The Bureau of Land Management, Carson City Field Office, will host Dr. Viktoria Hertling for a special presentation on the Holocaust starting at 10 a.m. May 5. The one-hour presentation will be at 5665 Morgan Mill Road. The public is invited.

Volunteers sought for Railroad Museum

During National Volunteer Week (April 17-23), the staff of the Nevada State Railroad Museum expressed its appreciation for volunteers who do so much for the museum and community.

Volunteers work with children in educational programs, give tours to school groups and adults, provide outreach to schools and community activities, help with special events, orient visitors, assist customers in the museum shop, and sell admission tickets.

Public invited to forum on new recreation center

The Carson City Parks and Recreation Department is building a multi-use Recreation Center. The public input is welcomed at meetings 6:30 p.m. May 2 and May 5 in the Community Center Sierra Room to learn about the plans.

Rummage and bake sale to benefit charity

The Topaz Sagehens 29th Rummage and Bake Sale 2005 is from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. May 7 and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. May 8 at the Topaz Ranch Estates Park building.

Hot dogs, chili dogs, sauerkraut, soda and hot chocolate are available. Home-baked goods, including pies, cakes and cookies can be purchased.

Raffle tickets will be sold each day for food baskets and great prizes. Winners need not be present. Proceeds help various community charities and civic organizations.
