Spanish Springs collected 12 hits and put a swift end to Douglas' 13-game winning streak Tuesday afternoon, walking away with a 12-7 win against the Tigers.
Steve Masten and Brad Carlsen each homered for the Cougars and Carlsen drove in three runs in the non-league match-up of Northern 4A powers.
Douglas answered with nine hits of its own, including a two-run home run from Roman Davis and RBIs from Kyle Luken, Tyson Estes and Chris Balcom.
Spanish Springs jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first, but Douglas answered with three runs in the third to get back into the game.
The Cougars pulled back out to a 9-4 lead in the sixth, but the Tigers came back with three runs of their own to pull within striking distance. The Spanish Springs offense proved to be to much, however, as it pushed across three final runs to put the game away.
The loss spoiled a relatively solid performance on offense for Douglas which saw eight of 11 hitters record at least one hit and 10 of 11 reach base.
However, the Tigers blew a big opportunity to take control of the game in the fourth inning trailing 6-3, putting two runners on with one out and eventually loading the bases with two outs, but failing to bring anyone across the plate.
Sophomore Nate Whalin took the loss, Douglas' first at home this year, and Spanish Springs' Kyle Smit took the win.
Douglas (19-6-1, 12-0) travels to Wooster Thursday for a game at 3:30 p.m.
