A memorial service for Maxine J. Hoffman, 87, a Sparks resident for the past three years, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Walton's Chapel of the Valley.
Mrs. Hoffman died April 26, 2005, in Sparks. She was born June 16, 1917, in Bloomington, Wis., to Erwin Albert and Bessie Evelyn Birch Oaklief.
She married L. Sam Hoffman on Sept. 2, 1935, in Galena, Ill. He preceded her in death.
Before moving to Sparks, she lived in Carson City for 33 years.
Mrs. Hoffman was a sales representative for 15 years for Kitzmeyer-Cochran Drug Store, where she managed the Nevada Bell Substation and the U.S. Postal Substation. Prior to moving to Sparks, she worked at the Carson Nugget, managing the children's lounge for 10 years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Carson City and the Order of Eastern Star.
Among her survivors are her children and their spouses Carol Ann and Leo Valdes of Las Cruces, N.M., Samuel J. and Joyce Hoffman of Rancho Cordova, Calif., John E. and Peggy Hoffman of Gautier, Miss., and Kay J. and Esmaail Behbehani of Sparks; twin sister, Margaret Wendt of Hartford, Wis.; brother, James Oaklief of Michigan; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Private burial will be at Lone Mountain Cemetery.
