Carson City

Boys & Girls Club hosts baseball competition

Area youth will compete in the Pepsi Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit & Run Competition from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at 673 S. Stewart St.

Pitch, Hit & Run is the official skills competition of Major League Baseball.

This grass-roots program is designed to provide youngsters with an opportunity to compete for free in a competition that recognizes individual excellence in core baseball skills.

Competitors are divided into four age divisions: 7/8, 9/10, 11/12, 13/14. Children have the chance to advance through four levels of competition, including team championships at major league ballparks and the national finals at the 2005 MLB All-Star Game.

Walk to benefit premature babies

The March of Dimes WalkAmerica will be Saturday in Carson City on the Capitol grounds. Funds raised will help save and improve the lives of premature babies.

In addition to walking, there will be music, food, face painting, massages, prizes and giveaways. Registration and continental breakfast including Krispy Kreme donuts, starts at 8 a.m. with the walk beginning at 9 a.m. Everyone is welcome.

Public Excavation Days at Acey Pearson's sawmill

The Carson Ranger District of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest is sponsoring two public excavation days at Acey Pearson's sawmill site in Galena Creek Park. The excavations will be from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Sunday and May 14.

"The public excavation is part of the archaeological awareness and historic preservation week and is a great opportunity for participants to see and touch artifacts from the 1860s and 1870s," said Dr. Greg Haynes, Carson Ranger District archeologist. Eighty participants in all will be able to participate.

Registered participants will be able to dig side-by-side with professional archaeologists and historians unearthing Comstock-era artifacts. To register contact Dr. Greg Haynes or Terry Birk at 882-2766. There is no cost to participate or enter the park but preregistration is required.

Genoa

Genoa Museum now open through October

After a long winter slumber, a true sign of spring is the awakening of the Genoa Courthouse Museum. It is open seasonally from May until October. The opening ceremonies begin at 10 a.m. Saturday with a flag-raising ceremony at 11 a.m.

Nevada Civil War Volunteers will re-enact key events from the Civil War period. They will speak about the dress, kinds of transportation and status of slaves when President Abraham Lincoln declared the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863.

Accompanying the Civil War soldiers will be Paulette Grune in Civil War dress styles, complete with hoop skirt and several layers of undergarments, to demonstrate what life was like for women during those days.

Spanish music featured at Genoa Town Hall concert

The Davis Gallery of Fine Art is presenting a free concert of romantic Spanish music featuring accomplished pianist Dr. Robert Ruppel. The concert will be at 4:45 p.m. Saturday at the Genoa Town Hall on Main Street (Next door to The Gallery). Seating is limited.

Following the concert, The Davis Gallery will host a Spanish gala and fine-art exhibition in the gallery proper at 2285 B Main St. Spanish foods and drinks will be provided.
