Dorothy Evelyn Freeman Strong

Dorothy Evelyn Strong, 80, a Carson City resident for the past 14 years, died Aug. 1, 2005, after a long illness.

She was born March 29, 1925, in Kansas City, Kan., to Eveline and Lafey Bee Freeman.

She graduated from Southwest High School in Kansas City in 1942 and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics from California State University at Long Beach in 1961. She was a member of the American Association of University Women.

She married James A. Strong in 1966 in Carson City.

Before moving to Carson City, she lived in San Jose, Calif., for many years.

Mrs. Strong was a mathematics teacher for 14 years and a textbook consultant and editor for two years. She taught porcelain-doll making at the YWCA in San Jose for 10 years. She was a volunteer with the Women's Health Initiative at the University of Nevada.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Virginia Williams, and brother, John Freeman.

Among her survivors are her husband of Carson City; daughters Janet Fish of Madison, Kan., and Kay Sharp of Manchester, Ohio; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

At her request, there will be no service.
