Compliance investigators from the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles Wednesday ordered a $5,000 fine and three-day business suspension for Internet Auto Sales of Reno.

According to DMV officials, owner John Stephens was served with notice his company improperly issued a dealer's report of sale, failed to take care of an outstanding security interest on a trade-in and furnished false information to DMV to obtain a title.

A spokesman said it was the fifth documented violation by the dealership regarding reports of sale in three years and the second violation for not taking care of an outstanding security interest in the past year.

DMV officials said the three-day suspension came from "an obvious and willful failure to comply with the provisions of the motor vehicle laws of the state of Nevada."

Stephens has until Monday to request a hearing or the suspension goes into effect.
