DeVore to compete in Diamondbacks event

Curtis DeVore has qualified to compete in the Arizona Diamondbacks Olympics Championship to be held Sunday, Aug. 28.


The event will take place prior to the Diamondbacks game with the Philadelphia Phillies at Bank One Ballpark. DeVore, 12, is a seventh grader at Eagle Valley Middle School. The competition includes hitting, throwing and base running skills.


DeVore attended the Diamondbacks training camp in Sedona, Ariz., in June and won the championship there. He took fourth overall out of more than 400 participants in his age group for all camps in Arizona.


Only the top 10 were invited to compete on Sunday. The top two finishers on Sunday will be invited to attend the national finals.


DeVore was a member of this year's Carson National 11-12-year-old Little League all-star team. he also played for the 2004 11-year-old Carson Nationals and the 2003 10-year-old Carson Nationals.
