For Carson girl's soccer, last year's vtight and physical game play is definitely a thing of the past.
"It's kind of a different style of play this year. We have a lot of talent that will allow us to play very well and expose our speed," said Carson coach Randy Roser.
Some things won't be changing, though. Once again, seniors Kasey Cano, Cassie Bowman, and Sammy Valerius will be holding up a strong center as Carson's key players. Cano is looking forward to returning to the field after tearing her ACL halfway through last year's season.
Roser has a young team on his hands this year, composed mostly of sophomores, a few seniors, and one freshman. However, he's not feeling limited by those numbers.
"If we can beat McQueen, we'll be a contender for the regional final," said Roser, who's hoping to see the team finish first in the Sierra League, allowing them to advance to the regionals. Carson won its last Northern 4A title in 2001.
Like most teams in the Northern 4A region, Roser sees Galena as the team to beat this year. And as always, Carson is looking forward to the rivalry with Douglas.
Carson has a tournament this weekend at Galena, and Carson will officially open the season on Tuesday with a game at Elko.
"Elko's been tough the last two seasons. Anytime you go to Elko, it's a tough game, so we'll see," said Roser.
