Charlo continues his consistent play

STOCKTON, Calif. - Mo Charlo made the most of his 24-minute stint Saturday night.

The 6-7 junior continued his solid play with a career-high 22 points, eight rebounds, three assists and a steal in Nevada's 77-70 win over UOP at the Spanos Center.

Charlo was 5 for 13 from the field and a perfect 11 for 11 from the line. He hit 18 of 19 free throws in the last two games.

He is averaging almost 14 a game, and he leads the team with 16 assists. His play has been steady if not spectacular at times.

"Coach talked about consistent; being consistent," Charlo said. "I put that in the back of my mind. I think about that all the time when I'm out there."

In a game where Nevada lacked energy at times, Charlo energized the Pack during a few key parts of the game.

"I thought he had a lot more energy in the second half," Nevada coach Mark Fox said. "He played well."

SESSIONS IS GIMPY

Ramon Sessions failed to score in Saturday's game. He played just 12 minutes and had four turnovers.

"He's hurt," Fox said. "He was very sore yesterday. If you watched him in the Kansas game, he wasn't moving very well."

Kyle Shiloh and Lyndale Burleson filled in. Burleson had three assists and four turnovers and Shiloh scored eight points, pulled down five rebounds and added an assist.

"Shiloh's and Burleson's defense made a difference in the second half," Fox said.

FORCE INSIDE

Christian Maraker certainly proved to be a handful for Nevada defenders.

The 6-9 Swede scored 21 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, but wasn't much of an offensive factor in the latter stages of the second half when the game was on the line.

He had a putback to trim Nevada's lead to 64-59 and then hit a 3-pointer in the closing seconds to make it 75-67.

Maraker scored 12 of his points in the first half, including 10 in the first 11 minutes.

TOUGH PLACE TO WIN

It's certainly not Allen Fieldhouse, but the Spanos Center has been tough on the opposition.

Saturday's loss was only the 12th nonconference setback in the last 72 games. Pacific had won 47 of its last 57 nonconference games at Spanos.

Denis Ikovlev played his first extended minutes of the season, logging nine minutes. He missed his only shot and turned the ball over one time late in the first half ...
