Last push for toy collection today

The Grocery Outlet will host a Toys for Tots drop-off day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today.

The Grocery Outlet is at 1831 N. Carson St.

The Carson City Sheriff's Department will offer fingerprinting for children. You can get a free picture with Santa for one new, unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots. There will be Christmas carols sung from 1-2 p.m. by the Word of Life Christian Center. A coloring contest for ages 1-5 and 6-10. Prize for best coloring picture in each group is a new bike.

Blood donations needed over holidays

During the holidays, the need for blood increases while the number of donations decreases. In addition to receiving hot apple cider and goodies, when you donate between now and Dec. 23, you will be entered into a drawing for a 50-inch big screen TV.

Symphony to ring in holiday season Sunday

Ring in the season with a Holiday Treat for all! The Carson City Symphony presents the 22nd annual "Holiday Treat" concert, featuring the Symphony, the Carson Chamber Singers, and the Red Hot Bell Peppers, at 4 p.m. Sunday in the Carson City Community Center. You will be treated to seasonal and holiday music in many styles. The concert will close with the traditional finale, "A Christmas Singalong," for orchestra, chorus, and the audience.

The Carson City Symphony, conducted by David Bugli, will feature the North American premiere of "Rumores," by Nicaraguan composer Carlos Ramírez-Velázquez. The Carson Chamber Singers, directed by Judy Monson, will perform "Sing Gloria," "What Ya Gonna Name Your Baby Boy," "Rejoice! Ye Shining Worlds on High," "See, Amid the Winter's Snow," and "Amid the Cold of Winter." The Red Hot Bell Peppers, a handbell choir from Carson Middle School directed by Nancy Mielke, are special guests. This concert is funded, in part, by a grant from the Nevada Arts Council, a state agency, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.

Tickets are $12 general admission, $10 for seniors, students, and Symphony Association members, and free for children age 16 and under. Calendar sale to benefit wild horses

The first local wild horse calendars and ribbons are being sold by the Men and Women for Wild Horse and Burro Freedom to aid wild horses in Northern Nevada.

Proceeds from the sale will be used to feed, give shots, clean their stables and much more.

On Saturday, the calendars will be sold at the rummage sale in the Dayton Community Center at 170 Pike St.

Calendars will be on sale from noon-4:30 p.m. today and Dec. 17 at the Carson Mall near Corral West and again from 1-5 p.m. Wednesday inside the mall.

Other places to pick up a calendar include: the Casino Fandango Gift Shop, Benson's Feed, Corral West and Walgreen's in Carson City. In Lyon County at Theresa's Business Services and Threads and Things. In Virginia City the calendars can be found at the Bucket of Blood Saloon.
