Misty Allen has been named coordinator for the newly created state Suicide Prevention Program.
The program will help develop a statewide plan for suicide prevention, improve crisis services in the state and provide training in assessment and intervention.
Allen has served as Crisis Lines Coordinator for the Crisis Call Center in Reno and helped establish the first certified statewide suicide prevention hotline.
The 2003 Legislature created the program, funding it with $334,000 in state general fund money. In addition, the program has received a three-year, $1.2 million federal grant through the State Division of Child and Family Services.
'Nevada Passages' to get second season
LAS VEGAS (AP) - Nevada tourism officials said Tuesday they'll sponsor another episode of "Nevada Passage," a reality television-style program designed to promote adventure tourism in the state.
The 2006 episode, which begins filming May 8, will follow teams of two as they compete in a ranch hand rodeo in Winnemucca, a Corvette race in Pahrump and mountain biking in Austin.
The one-hour show is produced and distributed for the Nevada Commission on Tourism by Honolulu-based TEAM Unlimited.
Last year's "Nevada Passage" aired in 100 markets and reached 2 million viewers through syndication.
Officials also announced plans for an outdoor competition that will be open to the public on May 6 and 7.
