A warrant was issued Monday for a Carson City man who allegedly broke into his estranged girlfriend's apartment, an act which led to the death of his friend in May 2004.
Fidel Fuentes, arrested Sunday afternoon on a misdemeanor traffic warrant, was charged with felony home invasion by Deputy District Attorney Tom Armstrong.
Just before midnight on May 24, 2004, Fuentes, 24, allegedly broke into the apartment of estranged girlfriend Katie Armstrong on Eighth Street. He was chased out of the apartment by a gun-wielding Maximilliano Cisneros, 23, who opened fire, striking Fuentes, and killing Fuentes' friend Juan Carlos Alegria, 24.
Monday, a Carson City jury found Cisneros guilty of second-degree murder in Alegria's killing and acquitted him in the shooting of Fuentes.
Fuentes testified in the preliminary hearing but could not be located to testify in the trial, which took place last week.
Investigators have been looking for Fuentes for questioning in the shooting of a preacher on Nov. 14.
According to arrest reports, the preacher was attempting to buy methamphetamine when he was shot in the head during a struggle with Juan Carlos Martinez, 23, and another man. The preacher recovered.
Martinez is being held in the Carson City jail on suspicion of robbery with a deadly weapon. A preliminary hearing is set for Jan. 19.
Detective Brian Humphrey said Fuentes' name came up during the investigation and he may have information on the shooting.
