Two Nevada prisons now have new wardens.
Glen Whorton, director of the Nevada Department of corrections, promoted Lenard Vare to the post of Warden at Southern Nevada Correctional Center. He will take over Jan. 13 when the institution at Jean reopens.
Vare has been with the department since 1995 and has been warden of the Lovelock Correctional Center, the state's primary prison for sex offenders, since 2004.
Whorton named Jack Palmer, associate warden for operations at Warm Springs Correctional Center in Carson City, to replace Vare at Lovelock.
Palmer has been with the department since 2000. He came West from Oklahoma, where had had a long career in corrections.
Vare has a degree in criminal justice administration. Palmer has a degree in sociology.
