Mary Ernestine Smith Nance, 87, of Utah, died Dec. 25, 2005, of cancer.

She was born on Sept. 4, 1918, in Fayetteville, Ark., to Harry George Smith and Jesse Pearl Fulton. She grew up in Hot Springs, Ark.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for 54 years.

She married James Henry Nance on Aug. 14, 1944. They were sealed together in a temple ceremony in 1968.

She and her husband lived in Carson City from 1969 to 1989, and were active members of the Carson City branch of the LDS Church.

Mrs. Nance served on the Gulf States Mission Relief Society Board, volunteered for the Taylorsville Senior Citizen's Center and was active in many LDS organizations.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years of Orem, Utah; twin daughters Sandra Dredge and husband Ross, of Orem, and Linda Hoy and husband Richard of Reno; son James Jr. and wife Suzanne of Sandy, Utah; daughter Laura Thompson and husband Tom of Spanish Fork, Utah; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Interment will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Salt Lake City, Utah.

McDougal Funeral Home, Salt Lake City, is in charge of arrangements.
