Carson girls defeat South Tahoe

It was over almost as soon as it started.

Carson High's girls basketball team scored 30 unanswered points during a 9 1/2-minute span in the opening half en route to a 62-21 win over South Tahoe Friday night at Morse Burley Gym Friday night.

The win moves Carson to 6-3 in Sierra League play going into today's home game against Wooster. The Senators are trying to chase down arch-rival Douglas, curently 6-2, for that second spot.

Douglas and Carson each have games against Reno and Wooster before facing each other next Friday in Carson City. Douglas also plays North Valleys.

"We definitely have a chance," Carson coach Alana Williams said. "We need to win every single game left. We have to bring our A game every single time out.

"Every player scored tonight. That's what I like to see, everybody making a contribution."

And, Williams went to her bench liberally in both halves. Nicole Scott led all scorers with 15, and Andrea Hoff added 14. No other player scored more than six points.

South Tahoe scored the game's first basket four seconds into the game, and Carson went on its aforementioned 30-point run, scoring the last 20 to end the quarter. Scott had five in that span and Sarah Johnston converted a three-point play.

"We got a lot of easy baskets in transition," Williams said.

Carson kept up the pressure in the second quarter, reeling off 10 straight points on two layups by Sandra McAlman and one by Sinead McSweeney. Johnston also scored from the field and Hoff scored on two foul shots.

South Tahoe scored seven of the next nine points to make it 32-9, but Carson scored the last nine points of the quarter, four by Hoff.

Carson JV 53, So. Tahoe 10

Kendra Sims scored a season-high 19 points to lead the way as Carson improved to 7-1 in league (15-2 overall).

Sarah Evans, Brittany DeRosa and Abby Rankl added six points each, Sarah Metcalf five, Megan Kilty four, Lydia Peri three, Whitney Hoote two and Tiffani Barber two each as every player scored for Carson. The Senators led 29-3 at halftime.

Carson frosh 62, So. Tahoe 22

Seven players scored six points or more as the Senators improved their league record to 5-3 (10-7 overall).

Amanda Osborne led the way with 10 points, while Morgan Nuckolls and Kayla Sanchez had nine each, Brittany Duncan eight, Erin Johansen seven, while Amanda Dines and Kelli Brothers scored six each. Brooke Lepire added four and Lialah Mobaligh two.
