Travis Wood scored 16 points to lead the way as Dayton High captured a key 69-64 double overtime win at Spring Creek Friday night in a battle between front-runners in the Northern 3A boys basketball race.
Shane Castro also scored 13 and Danny Hopper 12 for the Dust Devils (9-4 league, 16-9 overall), who took a half-game lead over Yerington in the standings and went up by a game-and-a-half over Spring Creek.

Jeremy Means scored 21 points and David Hitchcock as the Lions staged a fourth quarter rally to win their Winterfest and non-league game.
Silver Stage led 27-20 at halftime and 42-41 at the end of three quarters.
Yerington travels to North Tahoe today for a 3:30 p.m. game.
INDEPENDENCE 57, ROP 55, OT
Independence scored on a putback as time expired in overtime to defeat Rite of Passage and tighten the Northern 2A race for first-place.
ROP fell to 7-2 in league (8-12 overall), but remained on top of the standings ahead of Hawthorne (5-3) and Independence (6-4).
Phillip Williams had a double-double for ROP with 13 points and 12 rebounds, while Charon Jackson contributed 13 points and point guard Quan Baker had 12 points and three steals. Johnson led Independence with 27 points.
