The capital has traditionally hosted the first major social gathering of the Legislature.
This year, at the urging of Carson City Mayor Marv Teixeira, both freshmen and veteran legislators will get an overview of the entire area rather than just Carson City.
"This is the first time ever that Carson City, Douglas County, Lyon County and Storey County are co-hosting the legislative reception," said Teixeira. "That's significant."
The party will be held 5:30-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Carson Nugget.
He said he's hoping all legislators as well as Nevada's constitutional officers will attend. But Teixeira said it's not designed to put pressure on them.
"We're hoping the legislators will give us an opportunity to greet them and give them a flavor of what our region is all about," he said.
And since it's so early in the session, the event also gives particularly new lawmakers the chance to meet each other socially as well.
Teixeira said every member of the Carson supervisors, Douglas, Lyon and Storey county commissions is planning to attend the event, which will feature a buffet and live music.
He said during his campaign last year one of his goals was to get all local governments in the area to recognize their common needs and goals and to work together on them. The legislative reception, he said, should also get that process under way.
