Bethlehem Lutheran School recently held their seventh annual school spelling bee.

The top place winner in the first and second grade level was Brady Campbell, a second-grader; the third through fifth grade level winner was Arel Getty, a fifth-grader; the sixth through eighth grade level winner was Jared Lupton, an eighth-grader.

This is the second time Jared will represent Bethlehem Lutheran at the state spelling bee, which occurs March 12 in Las Vegas.

Last year, Jared placed fifth at the state bee.

School Superintendent praised

School board trustees recognized Carson City School District Superintendent Mary Pierczynski at the past school board meeting for a fabulous annual review.

"Dr. Pierczynski is a leader," said school board trustee John McKenna. "She's also a leader statewide. The superintendent's association recognized that. She's part of that statewide leadership team."

The Nevada Association of School Board recognized Pierczynski as one of the superintendents of the year in 2003.

"They say the sign of a good leader is who she surrounds herself with," said trustee Joanna Wilson. "And I would thank her for her incredible staff."

Pierczynski also thanked the staff.

"I'm very fortunate," she said. "They are the ones who make things move right along."

She also said the community is very supportive of the school and the children.
