Vegas fugitive caught during traffic stop in Ga.

CONYERS, Ga. - A routine traffic stop led to the arrest of a man wanted by the FBI for the strangling death of his girlfriend.

A Conyers police officer stopped a vehicle for following too closely on Interstate 20 around 3:30 p.m. Thursday. After questioning the men inside, the officer found that the driver had a suspended license and the passenger, 48-year-old Eugene Anthony Linder, had a fake California license, said interim Police Chief David Cathcart.

Linder was arrested and charged with providing a false name and date of birth.

Authorities later realized that Linder was an FBI fugitive for the 1997 murder of his girlfriend, 34-year-old Devi Lynn Ives. Her body was found buried in the desert outside Las Vegas.

Linder, who has been featured on the television show "America's Most Wanted," reportedly disappeared shortly after investigators began focusing on him as the prime suspect in the killing. He apparently had been living in Georgia for the last five years, working in construction, Cathcart said.

Linder was being held at the Rockdale County Jail awaiting extradition to Nevada to face charges.
