Demonstration on framing at artists' association meeting

The Carson Valley Art Association will hold its monthly meeting at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Minden Library. Jan Rollenhagen will instruct and demonstrate the art of matting and framing paintings.

Rollenhagen's paintings can be seen at the East Fork Gallery in Gardnerville on Highway 395, where viewers can see the work she has done framing her own work.

After the presentation, Rollenhagen will critique the paintings of those artists who brought in a work to be analyzed. Refreshments will be served. The public is welcome to attend.

Carson City

Cellist plays as part of Winter Classical Music Series

Internationally renowned cellist Stephen Framil will present an evening of Bach's famous cello suites, along with other selections. He will appear at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Brewery Arts Center Ballroom, 449 W. King St.

Framil has a master's degree in music and has played at Carnegie Hall and soloed with several international symphony orchestras.

The concert is part of the Brewery Art Center's End of Winter Classical Music Series.

Season tickets are $40 for five shows. Tickets are $14 nonmembers and $12 BAC members, seniors, and students. Call 883-1976 for tickets and season information.

Crab dinner helps support school

St. Teresa of Avila Catholic School will hold its third annual Crab Dinner at 6 p.m. Friday in Chartz Hall, 3000 N. Lompa Lane.

The dinner will feature live music, dancing and crab, as a fund-raiser for the school.

A silent auction will also be held. Auction items are being accepted for donation.

Carson City resident trains for service with AmeriCorps program

Brandi Duncan of Carson City has begun training for 11 months of service with the National Civilian Community Corps, an AmeriCorps program.

Duncan is one of 33 team leaders at the Central Regional campus in Denver.

She will be responsible for managing daily activities of 10 to 12 corps members and encouraging high standards for their community-based service-learning projects.

Duncan will be a role model, educator, safety manager and liaison between the campus and project sponsor.

Prior to joining the community corps, Duncan attended Carson High School and Brookes College.
