Senior garden club preps for spring
The Carson City Senior Citizens Center Garden Club will meet from 10-11:30 a.m. Monday at the center, 911 Beverly Drive.
Topics to be discussed include "Time to Start Planning Your Garden," "Soil Testing and Amending," "Catalog Shopping" and "Companion Planting."
The meeting is open to the public; one need not be a senior to attend.

Mentor orientation trainings slated
The Mentor Center of Western Nevada will host training for people who are interested in becoming a mentor.
Spending a minimum of one hour a week with a young person can change two lives - theirs and yours. Attend one of the three-hour training sessions: Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon or March 10 from 6-9 p.m.
Trainings are at the Reynolds Building, Room 103 on the Western Nevada Community College Carson City Campus.

Music classes offered to young children
Musikgarten, an early-childhood development music program, is being offered to preschoolers in Carson City. A free introductory class will be at 10:30 a.m. March 8. Classes begin March 15 and 16.
Music specialists Shirley Bierman and Liz Tetz teach classes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at the Brewery Arts Center performance basement.
Family Music is for children aged 15 months to 3 years. Cycle of Seasons is for ages 3 to 41Ú2. Adults participate with their children in a 10-week program which includes singing, moving, dancing, listening and playing. Call 882-2870.
Nevada history subject of museum story hour
Eleanor Coerr's Nevada alphabet book "S is for Silver" will be featured during an after-school children's story hour at 3:15 p.m. March 15 in the history gallery of the Nevada State Museum.
The book highlights important people and places that have shaped Nevada's history. Children will also be able to touch artifacts from the museum's history and educational collections.
Space is limited to 15 people. To make a reservation, call 687-4810, ext. 23,7 by March 11. Children must be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult.
Dementia medication workshop offered
A "Medication Management and Dementia" workshop for family caregivers is noon-3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Carson City Senior Citizens Center, 911 Beverly Drive.
The workshop features Dr. Steven Rubin and Kim Hathcock, MSN, APN. A suggested donation of $5 is requested. Workshops are presented by the Alzheimer's Association of Northern Nevada.
