James Edwin Nicholson, 74, a Wasilla, Alaska, resident for the past four years, died Dec. 25, 2004, at Valley Hospital in Palmer, Alaska. He was born Oct. 4, 1931, in Conway Springs, Kan.

Before moving to Alaska, he lived in Dayton for more than 20 years.

Mr. Nicholson worked in the upholstery business, auto body and restaurant industry. He sold mobile homes in Carson City.

He was an artist who enjoyed painting, the outdoors, camping and hunting especially. He was a longtime trainer and breeder of dogs and enjoyed falconry. He enjoyed exchanging recipes.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, retiring with a Purple Heart.

Among his survivors are his daughter, Leslie Nicholson, granddaughter, Sierra Hawthorne, and grandson, Dylan Hawthorne, all of Alaska; cousins Mike and Debbie Ebenkamp and their three children of Kansas; and Jimmy and Debbie Ohl and their two children of Nevada.

No service will be held. His ashes will be scattered over the Nevada desert.
