Phillips M. Mikkelson, 69, a Carson City resident for the past eight years, died Jan. 10, 2005, at home. He was born April 3, 1935, in Colorado Springs, Colo., to Monroe and Pauline Phillips Mikkelson.

He lived in Dickinson, N.D., and Twin Falls, Idaho, before moving to Longmont, Colo., in 1947 and graduated from Longmont High School in 1953.

He married Margaret Baima in 1954, and they were later divorced. He married Audrey Jeffrey June 20, 1964, in Loveland, Colo.

Mr. Mikkelson worked for the Rocky Flats nuclear plant in Golden, Colo. in 1958, where he worked for 35 years, retiring in 1993.

He was involved in bowling most of his life. He started as a pin setter in the 1950s at Main Street Lanes in Longmont. He later served on the board of directors of the Longmont Bowling Association, as president, and then secretary for many years. He also served on the board of directors of the Colorado State Bowling Association, and from 1990 to 1991 served as president.

He participated in many national, state and local bowling tournaments. He was a certified bowling instructor and coach and helped organize the American Junior Bowling Congress at Bowliana Lanes in the 1960s.

He was a life member of the Longmont Elks Lodge No. 1055 and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Longmont No. 2601.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1954 through 1958 on the USS Shangri-la. In 1965, he joined the Navy Reserves and retired from the Navy in 1991.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Jo Darlene Erman in 1977; granddaughter, Susan Nichole Brown in 1988; and adopted daughter Jill Delaine Jeffrey Mikkelson, Oct. 6, 1989.

Among his survivors are daughters Michele Huntley and Shellee Rohrbaugh, both of Springfield, Mo., and Milenne Tamara Nichols of Reno; son, Jerrod of Longmont; adopted daughters Jacuelyn Foley of Las Vegas, Jolene Feld of Denver and Jeanne Brown of Lakewood; brother and sister-in-law Hugh and Barbara of Longmont; and 11 grandchildren.

No service will be held. Cremation will be at FitzHenry's Funeral Home, and his ashes will be scattered on the Pacific Ocean.
