Mats Boehnke was perfect on Monday. The Carson High School boys team wasn't so fortunate, though, as the Senators came out on the short end of a 78-77 score in a Northern 4A alpine skiing dual meet.

Four racers didn't finish and the Senators fell to their first defeat of the season in a slalom held at East Bowl of Mt. Rose. The team did rebound later in the day to defeat Spanish Springs 80-73 and Reed 90-51 in a giant slalom.

Boehnke, a sophomore who won the slalom and earned a share of the overall championship at last year's state finals, picked up right where he left off in his first race of the new season. He won the slalom with a time of 22.2 seconds, followed by teammate Devon Anderson (23.3) as Carson scored a 1-2 sweep. Boehnke logged a 30.6 clocking in the giant slalom, which was good for first-place overall in the double dual against Spanish Springs and Reed.

Meanwhile, freshman Kacey Potter led the way as Carson's girls swept all three of their races.

Potter led a 1-2-3 sweep as Carson's girls defeated North Valleys 86-46. The Senators also slipped past Reed 79-77 and defeated Reed 85-65.

Potter, a first-year ski racer, turned a time of 32.3 in the slalom to capture her second victory of the season. Krista Wisbar placed second (33.6) and Meagan Carter third (35.7) to lead the Carson sweep against North Valleys.

Alysia Roberts also placed sixth (38.3), Yvette Holleit seventh (38.7), Cassie Larson eighth (40.9), Elizabeth Peebles 10th (44.2) and Jennifer Faiella 11th (55.1) for Carson.

Five Senators placed among the top eight in the narrow giant slalom win against Spanish Springs. Potter placed second (40.8), Wisbar fourth (42.4), Carter fifth (45.7), Holleit seventh (47.4) and Larson eighth (48.5) for the Senators.

Potter placed second, Wisbar third, Carter fourth, Holleit fifth and Larson sixth in the Reed dual.

Carson's boys took six of the top nine places in a seven-point win over Spanish Springs. In addition to Boehnke, Caleb McCoy placed fourth (35.1), Chris Bessette fifth (36.4), Chris Browne sixth (38.4), Mike Aglietti seventh (40.0) and Mike Beasom ninth (41.3).

Boehnke was first, McCoy second and Bessette third in the dual against Reed.

The Carson boys and girls, both with 4-1 season records, return to action today for a double dual meet slalom against Hug and Bishop Manogue at Mt. Rose.
