Kurt H. Hilz, 72, a Dayton resident for the past 10 years, died Jan. 20, 2005, at Evergreen Mountain View Care Center.

Mr. Hilz was born Feb. 24, 1932, in Germany to Paul and Emilie Maruachewski Zilz.

He left Duisburg, Germany, to work in Australia from 1955-1958 then continued on to San Jose, Calif. He married Nancy Shroyer on Nov. 26, 1971, in Carson City.

He lived in Incline Village before moving to Dayton.

Mr. Hilz was a tool and die maker and enjoyed skiing and golf.

He was active in the United Airline Retirees and a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Dayton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Wolfgang and sister Helga.

Among his survivors are his wife of Dayton; stepsons William Shroyer of Watsonville, Calif., and Rick Shroyer of San Jose; stepdaughter and husband Valerie and Gene Plotkin of San Jose; brother and sister-in-law Gerald and Linda Hilz of Lincoln, Calif.; sisters Renate Brast and Gertrud Papsdoif, both of Germany, and granddaughter Jessica Plotkin of San Jose.

Capitol City Cremation & Burial Society is in charge of arrangements.
