The Dayton High boys basketball team shot 51 percent from the floor for a key 55-51 win at Truckee on Wednesday to keep pace in the Northern 3A race.
Dayton improved to 6-2 in league to stay a half-game ahead of Spring Creek in the race for first in the Northern 3A. Spring Creek beat Fernley on Wednesday to improve to 5-2.
"I'm real happy with our kids shot selection," Dayton coach Rob Streeter said. "We just maintained our lead. It was just balanced scoring by our guys."
Shane Castro led Dayton with 10 points, scoring all 10 of his points in the first half. Danny Hopper scored nine points, Josh Wagoner had eight points, Josh Aaker and Trent Wood each had seven points and seven rebounds and Erik Hopper added seven points.
Dayton led 29-27 at halftime before extending its lead to 46-39 after three quarters. The Dust Devils led 54-48 when Truckee hit a late three-pointer to cut the lead to 54-51.
Wood was then fouled with 4.5 seconds left and hit one-of-two foul shots for the final margin.
The Dust Devils will travel to face Incline on Friday and will host North Tahoe on Saturday.
