Carson City will host a series of workshops concerning its cable television franchise renewal process beginning Tuesday.
The focus groups will examine the past performance of Charter Communications, Northern Nevada's only cable provider, and future services that Carson City residents would like to include in a new cable franchise agreement.
City Manager Linda Ritter said the workshops are an opportunity for the community to voice opinions on future services that could be available through the cable communication system.
"It's an excellent opportunity for folks to share their views about the future of cable television and help us in a process to provide exciting telecommunication resources to the residents of Carson City," she said.
The workshops are free and will last about two hours. They are Tuesday through Feb. 10.
According to the city manager's office, each workshop will provide information on the franchise renewal process, how cable systems work, local public, educational and government access channels and the ways that different groups could use a cable communication system. The presentation at each of the five workshops will be the same, but the discussion may vary according to the area of interest of the participants.
