The Carson American 11-year-old all-stars trailed throughout the entire game until when it counted the most - in the last inning.
Carson trailed 11-7 going into the top of the sixth inning, but scored five runs and then held on for a thrilling 12-11 win over Carson Valley in its opener at the District Little League Tournament at Shadow Mountain in Sparks. Carson manager Leo Drozdoff described the win as a total team effort.
Joe Zinda went 4-for-4 with two RBI and Colin McCulloch was 3-for-3 with three runs and an RBI to help led the effort.
In the sixth, Ben Drozdoff perfectly executed a bunt to score Jeremy Froland to tie the score 11-11. Cole Dufresne followed with a single to scored Zinda to give Carson a 12-11 lead.
Dufresne pitched the first four innings, McCulloch pitched the fifth for the win and Tim Baylor pitched a scoreless sixth to pick up the save. Dufresne was 2-for-4 with an RBI, Baylor and Stephen Anderson each had a hit and an RBI, Tommy Champion had a hit and a run and Connor Fallon and Zach White each scored a run for Carson.
