Funeral services for James "Jim" Irwin, 78, a seven-year resident of Minden, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home.

Mr. Irwin died July 6, 2005, at home. He was born June 2, 1927, in Muskogee, Okla., to Leonard and Thelma Payne Irwin.

He married Virginia Lee Vogt on Jan. 25, 1948, in Inglewood, Calif.

Before coming to Minden he lived in Manhattan Beach, Calif.

Mr. Irwin attended Leuznaer High School, Woodbury Art School and Chonard Art Institute of Los Angeles. He worked as a graphic artist for Rockwell Northrop Aviation International.

He served in the U.S. Navy.

Mr. Irwin earned his pilot's license when he turned 40. He had both an instrument and commercial pilot's rating. While serving as the president of the Rockwell Flying Club he ferried aircraft from the factory to Southern California.

He was preceded in death by his sister Fran Austin and brother Tommy Irwin.

Among his survivors are his wife of Minden; daughters and sons-in-law Cathy and Dave Shadel of Gardnerville, Cindy and Bret Bullock of El Segundo, Calif; grandchildren Bryan Shadel, Cindy da Silad, Kelsey Bullock and Goron da Silad; sister Caralyn of Redding, Calif.; brothers Richard of Mission Viejo, Calif., Don of Redding, Phil of Wilson, Wis., Dave of Pismo Beach, Calif., and brother-in-law Fred Austin of Palm Desert, Calif.; three grandchildren; nieces Susan Holmes and Sharon Litza; and nephew Steven Irwin.

Burial will be at Eastside Memorial Park in Minden

FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
