The Nevada Supreme Court has upheld the conviction of North Las Vegas City Councilman John Rhodes for filing a false insurance claim.

Rhodes was convicted by a Clark County jury in September 2003 on charges he filed a fraudulent $10,200 insurance claim after a 1998 burglary at his home. He appealed claiming he didn't get a fair trial because of a faulty jury instruction and that the state denied him access to possible exculpatory evidence.

"This was an important case from a public integrity standpoint and for the protection of insurers and consumers," said Attorney General Brian Sandoval.

Rhodes was sentenced to 18 to 48 months in prison, suspended in favor of a five year probation.
