Supermodified Racing League owners Davey Hamilton and Steve Fensler recently announced they have sold the supermodified division to WC Promotions.
Fensler and Hamilton transferred assets of the supermodified division to WC for an undisclosed purchase price. Assets include contracts for the remaining SRL races this year, and other items. Remaining races will be run under the SRL banner for the rest of the season with WC Promotions managing the sanctioning of the events.
WC Business Promotions partners are Elizabeth Ann Williams and Rick Cameron. Williams and Cameron also promote Madera Speedway in Central California. Williams, a Northern California business woman, owns two supermodified teams that compete in the SRL and Cameron is a veteran supermodified driver. Cameron stated there will be no immediate changes in rules or officiating and the supermodified tour would complete the season as scheduled.
Cameron, whose professional background is in marketing, announced WC would begin seeking corporate partners to help in marketing and promoting supermodified racing in the western states.
A name change for the supermodified sanctioning organization is in the works for the 2006 season and beyond. The sale does not affect the Wild West Shootout Late Model Division which continues under Fensler's management.
The SRL has four events remaining on the schedule. They are scheduled for Douglas County Speedway in Roseburg, Ore.; Shasta Speedway in Anderson; Madera Speedway in Madera, and Altamont Raceway in Tracy, all in California.
S&S Motorsports based in Carson City, owned by Steve Shaw and Tom Silsby, currently leads the points race for both driver (Troy Regier) and owner points. Regier and S&S Motorsports are the 2004 SRL champions.
