Tonight's summer movie in Slim Gibson Park beside the Nevada State Railroad Museum begins with a homage to the locomotives of Hollywood and will conclude with the 1999 slapstick Western comedy "Wild Wild West."

John Frink, museum program coordinator said the free event begins at 7:30 p.m. with a lecture by Bob Kredel, who supervised the railroad operations for the movie starring Will Smith and Kevin Kline, which is based on the old "Wild Wild West" television series. The railroad museum's Inyo locomotive was featured in the old television series.

"Bob Kredel is going to show some video of railroad operations and still photos from the movies he has participated in," he said.

The museum stopped hosting summer movies more than four years ago because funding could not be secured.

Just to show "Wild Wild West" cost this year's sponsor, Kiwanis Club of Reno, about $170. The number of films has been reduced, the museum used to show eight a summer. Frink said locals fondly remember the event.

The museum will show Walt Disney's "The Great Locomotive Chase" on Aug. 13. This film "stars" the Inyo and Dayton engines. The day before this movie is shown, Michael Broggie will speak on his book about Disney's railroad story.
