A memorial service for Franklin Leonard Coonley,85 of Carson City will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Walton's Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service at Lone Mountain Masonic Cemetery. A reception will immediately follow at the Carson City Masonic Temple.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Walton's.
Mr. Coonley died July 17, 2005, in Carson City. He was born Jan. 26, 1920, in York, Neb.
He joined and then was mobilized with the Nebraska National Guard at the beginning of World War II. His military career included landing at Omaha Beach and the Battle of the Bulge. He was transferred to Carson City in 1968, where he finished his working career as a command sergeant major and then with the state, retiring from the Adjutant General's Office in 1983.
Mr. Coonley was actively involved with Masons. He was Most Worshipful Grand Master of Masons in Nevada in 1992. He was Past Worshipful Master of Carson Lodge 1; Eminent Commander of Edward C. Peterson Commandry 8 in 1989; Executive Officer of Nevada Demolay; Past Patron of Esther Chapter 3 and Past Excellent Chief of the KilKenney Council 144. He was also a member of the Holy Royal Arch Knight Templar Priests, Royal Order of Jesters, Honorary Zelzah Temple, Red Cross of Constantine and the Royal Order of Scotland.
Among his survivors are his wife, Hanako "Mary Ann"; children Susan Smith-Ansotegui, Lillian Coonley-Connell and Grant Franklin Coonley; their spouses; and four grandchildren.
