Kenneth Hammerstaedt, 79, a Dayton resident for the past six years, died July 16, 2005, in Dayton.
He was born April 10, 1926, in Kensal, N.D., to Herbert Howard and Mary Schmidt Hammerstaedt.
He married Opal Pauline Messick on May 6, 1950, in Reno. She preceded him in death April 14, 2004, in Dayton.
Before moving to Dayton he lived in Anderson, Calif.
Mr. Hammerstaedt was a heavy equipment operator.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Among his survivors are sons Herb and Wayne, both of Dayton; brother, Ray; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A service will be at 10 a.m. Aug. 5 at Lawncrest Memorial Park in Redding, Calif.
FitzHenry's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
