Mass will be celebrated for Muriel Batesel, 91, a longtime Carson City resident at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church.
Mrs. Batesel died July 20, 2005. She was born June 25, 1914, to Joseph Joshua and Pearl Adele Jackson in Sparks. She graduated from Sparks High School.
Mrs. Batesel began her business career after graduation as a beautician, owning and operating three beauty salons in Reno.
She married Michael and moved to Carson City where they homesteaded two 160-acre parcels, one in Jacks Valley and the other being the original Cinderlite Mine on McClelland Peak. After working long and hard on the homestead she decided to go into real estate. She established Muriel L. Batesel, Realtors, and became a broker in Carson City. After 35 years and at the age of 80 her family finally coaxed her to retire.
Mrs. Batesel served as the president of St. Teresa School's Parent Teacher Association and as the chairman for many of their Christmas fashion shows. She joined the Business and Professional Women while in Reno. She was a member of the Carson-Tahoe Hospital Auxiliary and the president of the Republican Women's Club, Soroptimists and the Carson Board of Realtors. She was a member of St. Teresa's St. Anne's Guild and during retirement became involved in St. Teresa's seniors organization.
She was preceded in death by her brothers Joe, Alan, Don and sister Berniece.
Among her survivors are her husband of Carson City; her son and daughter-in-law Michael and Bansi; daughter and son-in-law April and Jim Enloe; son Mitchell; grandsons Aaron and Austin; granddaughter Amanda; and great-grandson Ckayden and many nieces and nephews.
