Teenager killed in Kingsbury accident

A Gardnerville teenager was killed late Thursday night in a traffic accident on Kingsbury Grade.

Cory Jackson, a 16-year-old Douglas High School swimmer and junior varsity football player, died from injuries received in the accident.

Jackson would have been a junior when school started up again this fall.

Football coach Mike Rippee said Jackson was a fine young man.

"This is a real tragedy," he said. "You just don't have any words for something like this."

Rippee held a meeting on Friday to inform the other players.

In addition to football, Jackson was a standout swimmer, regularly placing in Northern Nevada swim meets. He took 13th at regionals in the 100-meter butterfly this year.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, Jackson was southbound on Kingsbury Grade in a Ford Probe near Tramway. At about 9:35 p.m., he passed another vehicle on the left and exited the road edge and down a steep hillside.

The Probe landed on its top at the bottom of the hillside. Jackson was alone in the car. He died of his injuries at the scene.

The Nevada Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation and is asking anyone who witnessed the accident or can assist in any way to call 688-2500.

Jackson is the second Douglas High School teenager killed in a traffic accident in a week.

A funeral service for Bridget Noel Chambers, 16, was held on Friday at St. Gall Catholic Church.

Bridget was killed at Highway 395 and Stephanie Way when another driver pulled out in front of her as she, her brother, and two other teens were headed north.

Both teens were in the same class.
