More than 150 varieties of cars and bikes from the early 1900s to the present day will be on display to the public at Carson City's 11th Silver Dollar Car Classic on Friday-Sunday at Mills Park.

Activities include a Thursday night cruise from the Plaza Hotel, Friday's Cruise of Champions and a street dance in the Carson Nugget west parking lot.

Saturday's festivities include a pancake breakfast, show and shine, Champion Speedway laps, a Virginia City cruise and party.

On Sunday there will be a pancake breakfast, $1 million poker run, Silver Dollar dinner and awards ceremony.

Endurance ride planned

There will be a Hot Summer Daze Endurance Drive/Ride on Friday at Fort Churchill (Boy Scout Camp).

The ride begins at 11 a.m. and entrants may go 10 or 20 miles.

This is a sanctioned event for the National Endurance Driving Association. High Desert Horsemen will be sponsoring the drive/ride.

Library to offer citizenship classes

Carson City Library will offer citizenship classes (in English) beginning Saturday through Oct. 1, from 10 a.m.-noon, in the library's auditorium.

Registrants must be able to speak English, as well as read and write the English language.

The Saturday classes will run for approximately 10 weeks.

Registration is required prior to the start date. A $20 donation to the Library Gift Fund is suggested.

Donations will be used in the development of the Spanish and English-as-a-Second-Language collection.

Library staff member Javier Ramirez, himself a naturalized citizen, will facilitate the classes.

His focus of the classes will include an overview of United States history and information on the citizenship examination, including the N-400 Application for Naturalization.

Tours available to see wildlife in recovery

The Wild Animal Infirmary for Nevada in Washoe Valley is having an Open House from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Featured is a self-guided tour so folks can see wildlife in various stages of recuperation.

There is no admission fee and donations are tax-exempt for the donors.

Renaissance Fair begins Saturday

The ninth Genoa Renaissance Faire will be from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Admission is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors and children 6 to 12 and 4 and under free.
