Plans for a proposed brothel west of Fallon appear dead, but two prospective owners say they're undeterred in a quest to open a brothel in Churchill County.
A discussion item for a proposed brothel at Kamibo Drive, northeast of Leeteville Junction, was dropped from tonight's workshop meeting of the Churchill County Planning Commission.
The proposed site appears to be within 2,000 feet of a school bus stop at the end of Trento Lane, a violation of the county's brothel ordinance, said Rick Whimple, county code enforcement officer.
It could also be within 2,000 feet of Soda Lake property, which will be developed into a county park site, he said.
A county brothel ordinance adopted in April prohibits brothels from operating within 2,000 feet from parks, schools, school bus stops and other adult entertainment businesses.
Two Nevada women, Ruth Hall, of Carson City, and Dawn Santos, of the Virginia City area, have considered the Kamibo Drive site and other areas in the county as potential brothel sites.
Santos said the pair is still seriously pursuing plans to open a brothel in the county.
"We'll keep looking," Santos said. "It's not going to stop us."
She cited the county's friendly business climate and brothel policy as benefits to opening in the area.
The fact that there are no operational brothels in the county and only two are allowed is another attraction, Santos said.
The women looked at the now-defunct Lazy B and Salt Wells Villa brothels, but determined the cost to purchase either of the properties and erect acceptable structures was prohibitive.
