A memorial service and celebration of life for Cory M. Jackson, 16, will be from 3-6 p.m. today at Carson Valley Christian Center on Stephanie Way.
He died July 21, 2005, in a car accident on Kingsbury Grade. He was born July 17, 1989, in Fontana, Calif., to Shane Hughes and Heidi Jackson, he was a three-year resident of Gardnerville, having moved from South Lake Tahoe. A Douglas High School student, he completed his sophomore year. He played football, wrestled and was an excellent swimmer.
Cory was an active member of the High Sierra Fellowship youth group and volunteered at the Family Support Council. He was a waiter at the Lakeside Beach Grill in South Lake Tahoe.
He is survived by his mother, Heidi Jackson; maternal grandparents David and Cary Jackson of Gardnerville; paternal grandparents David and Arlene Sawyer of Southern California; aunt Kelly Jackson of Gardnerville; cousins, Nikki, Casie, Coral Warren and Cole Jackson; half-brothers, Noah and Justin Hughes; and many cousins, aunts and uncles from South Lake Tahoe, Southern California and Idaho.
A memorial fund has been established to help the family. Contributions may be made in Cory's name to account No. 8126308611 at the Gardnerville branch of Wells Fargo Bank. For information call 782-8692.
