An Eastern Star service for Helen B. Rockwood, 87, a Washoe Valley resident for the past 18 years, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Masonic Lodge No. 1, corner of Washington and Carson streets.

Mrs. Rockwood died July 26, 2005, at Carson-Tahoe Hospital. She was born April 21, 1918, in Idaho, to John and Sylvia Whalen Brooks.

Before moving to Washoe Valley, she lived in Fallon for 26 years.

She and her husband ran the 2 Lazy-2 P Ranch in Fallon from 1949-75.

She had a passion for all animals, especially horses.

Mrs. Rockwood was a member of the Order of Eastern Star since she was 18. She was a member of the Myrtle Chapter 12 in Fallon and Esther Chapter 3 in Carson City. She served as Worthy Grandmatron from 1965-66, Past Mother Advisor and Master of the Grand Cross of Color. She was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene, in 1985, two brothers and a sister.

Among her survivors are daughter, Sylvia Harms, of Washoe Valley; granddaughter and husband, Vanessa and Donnie Nelson of Reno and nephews John Hales and Frank Hales of Oregon.

Memorial contributions may be made to ESTARL Fund or to the Alzheimer's Association, 705 S. Wells Ave., Suite 225, Reno 89502.

Cremation will be at FitzHenry's Crematory.

FitzHenry's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
