The South Shore experienced three motorcycle crashes over the past weekend, one that killed Kenneth Paul Abler Jr., 40, of Placerville man at Zephyr Cove, and two injuries in different accidents at the same location near Twin Bridges.
Abler was pronounced dead at the scene Friday after his Harley Davidson collided with a van on Highway 50 on the Lakeridge curve six miles east of Stateline, Nevada Highway Patrol reported.
The van's driver, Heather King, 33, of Reno, and her two infant sons, were treated and released from Barton Memorial Hospital.
It is unknown whether alcohol was a contributing factor.
On Saturday, Ronnie Smith, 55, of Sacramento, was ejected from his Harley Davidson at 8 a.m. after heading eastbound on Highway 50 near the Sayles Canyon turnoff. He was transported via CALSTAR helicopter to Washoe Medical Center, the California Highway Patrol reported.
A motorcycle accident at the same spot more than six hours later resulted in the head injury of Hau Tran, 24, who was riding a Suzuki 600 when he went off the road.
The accident also led to the arrests of three other motorcyclists - all from Sacramento: Hung Pham, 24, Nahn Tran, 23, and Thinh Nguyen, 22. Nguyen was charged with weapons possession for suspicion of carrying a handgun.
All three were booked in El Dorado County Jail in Placerville on suspicion of reckless driving. Tran was also charged with suspicion of reckless driving.
