Douglas drug program funded

Lawmakers agreed Thursday to pay Douglas County money promised two years ago for a drug and alcohol treatment program.

The $100,000 was added to SB89 at the request of Assembly Minority Leader Lynn Hettrick, R-Gardnerville. He pointed out the treatment program was supposed to get the money in 2003. That money never reached the county, and, meanwhile, he said the program expended all of its matching money.

The Ways and Means Committee voted to put the money into the Senate bill, and senators accepted the amendment. SB89 now goes to the governor for his signature.
