BRAD HORN/Nevada Appeal Carson CIty firefighters work to rescue the driver of an older-model Jeep that was involved in a rollover accident at Ponderosa Drive and Bennett Avenue on Sunday evening.
A two-vehicle collision at an uncontrolled intersection in South Carson City Sunday evening resulted in two people being taken by Care Flight to Washoe Medical Center and two by ambulance to Carson-Tahoe Hospital.
According to Carson City Sheriff's Sgt. Clay Wall, at about 6:35 p.m., an eastbound Jeep on Bennett Avenue and a Toyota 4-Runner going south on Ponderosa Drive, north of Snyder Avenue, entered the intersection at about the same time and collided.
The Jeep rolled over, ejecting the driver and his young passenger. Driver Larry Larson was pinned underneath the vehicle.
Once extricated, he was transported by Care Flight to Washoe Medical Center in Reno with apparent broken ribs and a broken clavicle.
His passenger, a 7-year-old boy, was also airlifted to Washoe and released. His name or his relationship to Larson were not released.
The driver of the Toyota, Lydia George, and her 6-year-old female passenger were both transported to Carson-Tahoe Hospital and released.
It's uncertain whether Larson was wearing a seat belt. The other driver and passengers all claimed to have been wearing their seat belts.
The accident is still under investigation.
Entering intersections without stoplights or stop signs can be especially dangerous, Wall said.
"Always, always be sure it's clear to the left and right when you're going through an intersection," he said. "Always clear those intersections thinking there is a threat each way."
And always wear seat belts, he added. "Seat belts are lifesavers."
